Why we built BFIC.
To prospective members, alumni, and friends of the club,
We started the Baylor Finance & Investment Club because we saw a gap we couldn't ignore. Baylor has no shortage of driven students who want to build careers in finance — what it lacked was a place where that ambition could be sharpened into preparation. The students competing for the most selective roles in the industry weren't smarter than ours. They simply had a head start: upperclassmen who had walked the path, programs that taught the technical work early, and a community that treated preparation as a team sport.
So we decided to build that here. Not a résumé line or a social calendar, but a working organization — one where members cover real sectors, defend real pitches in front of their peers, and hold each other to the standard the industry will eventually hold them to. We modeled our practicum on how actual investment committees operate because we believe the best way to learn this work is to do the work.
We are equally deliberate about community. Finance is a relationship business, and the relationships that matter most are the ones formed before anyone has anything to gain. The members who join BFIC today are the alumni who will open doors for the members of five years from now. That compounding is the whole point — and it is why we emphasize cohesion as much as competence.
This club is young, and we consider that our greatest asset. Everything is still being built, which means every member who joins now is a founder in their own right. If you are reading this as a prospective member: come build it with us. If you are reading this as an alum or a friend of the club: we would love to hear from you.
